This is Nellie, my sister and brother-in-law’s late great West Highland Terrier. Like most terriers the Westie is energetic, strong minded and playful with a high prey drive.
It’s a challenge to paint a form that’s all white. Of course, even if the surface color is all pure white, the way we perceive the color varies greatly depending on shadows and reflected light. If you look closely at the painting, you will see there is no pure white pigment, except maybe for the highlights in the eyes. Although, please don’t look closely at the painting. They’re designed to be admired from a distance.
